A DECIDÉ : de faire droit à Votre requête et de confirmer Votre titre de COMMANDEUR HÉRÉDITAIRE de l'Union des Descendants des Commandeurs Héréditaires et Chevaliers du Grand Prieuré Russe de l'Ordre de St. Jean de Jérusalem en tant que descendant direct de DEMIDOFF Nicolas fils de Nicétas

qui, par grâce de Mon trisaïeul, S.M. l'EMPEREUR PAUL I-r Grand Maître de l'Ordre de St. Jean de Jérusalem avait été élevé le 2I Jullet 1799

au titre de Commandeur Héréditaire (Calend. de la Cour 1812 p; 483.)

La présente décision Vous donne le droit de porter la croix de cette Union, conformément à ses statuts.

Je confirme la décision du Chapitre, en foi de quoi Vous est délivré le présent document, que J'authentifie de Ma, signature et du sceau de l'Union.

The Chapter of the Union of the Descendants of the Commanders and Knights of the Russian Grand Priory of the Order of St John of Jerusalem, having taken note of the report presented by the Council of the Union about Your hereditary rights to the title HEREDITARY COMMANDER and of Your request in view of being confirmed in this title HEREDITARY COMMANDER of this Order : DEMIDOFF Paul son of Paul

HAS DECIDED: to grant Your request and to confirm Your title of HEREDITARY COMMANDER of the Union of the Descendants of the Hereditary Commanders and Knights of the Russian Grand Priory about St John of Jerusalem as a direct descendant of DEMIDOFF Nicholas son of Nicétas

which, by grace of My great-great-grandfather, H.M. the EMPEROR PAUL I Grand Master of the Order of St John of Jerusalem had been elevated 21st July 1799

to the title of Hereditary Commander (Calend. of the Court 1812 p; 483.)

The present decision gives You the right to wear the cross of this Union, in accordance with its statutes.

I confirm the decision of the Chapter, in witness whereof this document is delivered to You, which I authenticate with My, signature and of the seal of the Union.

NOTES:
Paul Pavlovitch Demidoff's father was Paul Alexandrovitch Demidoff who was listed in the Almanach de St Petersbourg 1913-1914 page 178 as "ancien officier du reg. des chevaliers gardes, commandant Héréditaire de l'Ordre de Malte".
Paul Alexandrovitch was the main person who brought together the Russian Nobles who re-established the Russian Grand Priory's activities in exile. He died in 1935, after which the Paris Group became very much moribund. A fresh lease of life was generated when some gentlemen in Denmark wrote to Grand Duke Kirill asking to create a branch in Denmark. As a result the Paris Group gained a new enthusiasm to see the work continue. Alexandre Pavlovitch Demidoff, Paul's son, continues the tradition.
