NOTES:
#1 The Shickshinny organisation has no lineal descent from the Order
of St John. There was a claim by this organisation that Grand Duke Alexander
of Russia was Grand Master 1913-1933 but this claim cannot be proven.
The beginnings of this organisation is located in the 1950s, when an organisation
emerged in the USA called "The Sovereign Order of Saint John of Jerusalem,
Inc" also known as the "Sovereign Order of St John of Jerusalem, Knights
of Malta".
It claimed to have been founded in 1908 in the USA but with meetings well
before then. It also claimed by some authors that it had a revived a
Corporation Status from an organisation registering in 1911, in Trenton,
New Jersey. However the Department of State responsible for New Jersey can
find any records of any Incorporation under those two names or any variants
of the Order of St John/Malta name.
The earliest independent record is an Incorporation of 1956, in Dover, in
the State of Delaware, registration No. 05037164100, 18th August 1956.
Oddly enough the Incorporation of 1956 was enacted by three women; Mary M
Lafferty, Jean P Joel and Ruth Biddle. Charles Pichel and his colleagues
do not appear as Officers of the Corporation until 30th June 1960! (From
the records in the State of Delaware). At a guess the Incorporation was an
'off-the-shelf' company, bought by Pichel in 1956. The amendments to register
Pichel's name being made four years later in 1960. The alternative is that
the three women were the Chief Officers of the "Sovereign Order of St John
of Jerusalem Inc" 1956-1960!
#2 These appointments are as those claimed by the organisation
rather than established fact.
#3 Exiled King Peter II of Yugoslavia was elected as the Royal Protector
under Cassagnac which caused a split. The Shickshinny Convent and filiants
do not appear to recognise Cassagnac as ever being a Lieutenant Grand Master
or Grand Master. See TABLE 2, for the
continuing Cassagnac organisation.
#4 Cassagnac, had been elected as Grand Master, September 1961. He
dismissed the Chancellor, Pichel, but in a tit for tat was dismissed by a
Court of Justice run by Pichel February 22nd 1962, see
TABLE 2. The Shickshinny Order discounts
Cassagnac in its own list of Grand Masters. At some stage King Peter II,
the exiled king of Yugoslavia was connected with, or a member of the Shichshinny
Order.
#5 This may be a ficticious appointment. Paul Jouveau du Breuil
(Cassagnac Order TABLE 2), wrote to Count
Christian Orssich (confidant of King Peter II), 29th June 1962, and
stated "I have just received a very good telegram from Graf von Luckner
in Hamberg saying he thanks me for my protection and that
he sends back to Pichel the nomination ("fancy lieutenancy"), and that he
comes to our Cause." Source: Count Christian Orssich's records.
#6 Under Edelen the Shickshinny Order allied with that in
TABLE 14.
#7 The Constitution of Paternò's own organisation (published
in 1979) places him as Grand Master 1st October 1976. This earlier "election"
was probably "schismatic", but reconciled to the Shickshinny organisation,
with Edelen stepping down in 1979. Paternò continued with his own
Order in 1981 see TABLE 12. |

NOTES:
#1 The de Cassagnac organisation had no lineal descent from the historic
Order of St John, and had separated from the organisation in
TABLE 1.
#2 Protector from 1962-1964. In January 1965, King Peter II of Yugoslavia,
was elected as Grand Master of this Order by his supporters. However this
was irregular and Cassagnac refused to step down to become Grand Master Emeritus.
By June 1965, the King was Grand Master of his own Order. See

#5 Prince Carol left to form his own Order see

#6 Resigned from the 'Regular Order' 14th May 2005, but
sought to be reinstalled, without a constitutional election. This
was refused.
#7 Chancellor of the "Den Danske Malteserorden" in Denmark.
#8 Left when the Priory of Brittany, along with the Den Danske
Malteserorden and the Den Suveræne St Johannes Orden (see
http://www.orderstjohn.org/selfstyle/ddm.htm)
joined forces along with a group in the USA known as the Priory of King
Valdemar the Great, and the Priory of Brittany. The Priory of France (the
main unit) refused to join in with the new grouping, and a schism occurred.
See TABLE 27 for the schismatic
organisation.

#1 This organisation seceded from that of
TABLE 2.
#2 King Peter was elected by a number of members as Grand Master of
the organisation in TABLE 2, but that
action caused a schism. From 1968, his title was known as 'Royal Head'.
#3 1895-1978. Genuinely entitled to be an Hereditary Commander of
the Russian Grand Priory - however he had never been a member of the
exilic-Russian Grand Priory in Paris. His father Prince Serge Constantinovitch
Belosselsky-Belozersky (1867-1951) was a member of the Paris Group of Commanders.
Prince Serge Belosselsky-Belozersky became Lieutenant Grand Master when the
King Peter Order experience schism in 1968, with Prince Serge leading one
of the factions.
#4 Troubetzkoy claimed to be an Hereditary Commander of the Russian
Grand Priory. However, the person who can actually claim that right was a
distant Cousin. he had been recruited from the Shickshinny Convent
(TABLE 1) where he had been the "Grand
Prior of the Russian Langue". Prince Sergei Troubetzkoy had an older brother
who was a member of the Paris Union of Descendants of Hereditary Commanders
and Knights of the Russian Grand Priory of the Order of St John of Jerusalem,
Prince Nikita Troubetzkoy.

Organisation/Order which seceded from Cassagnac's organisation in 1967

Brancovan left in 1969 to join the King Peter Order see
TABLE 3. He became known as 'Prince'
Michael Khimchiachivili Von Brancovani.
Brancovan then assisted in setting up a new St John Order
(TABLE 14). By 1972 Brancovan had set
up his own Order see TABLE 15.

organisations.
#2 As from 1991.
#3 This organisation ceased as an "Order" in its own right, when in
1999 it corporately became part of the 'Order' in
TABLE 7.
#4 Troubetzkoy claimed to be an Hereditary Commander of the Russian
Grand Priory. He had an elder brother who had been a member of the Paris
Group of the Descendants of Russian Family Commanders, which had the patronage
of the senior dynasts to the Russian Throne. It was a distant Cousin who
was entitled to claim the Hereditary Commandery. Troubetzkoy had been a member
of the organisation in TABLE 1, as the
"Grand Prior for the Russian Langue". Troubetzkoy left but continued to support
a faction of this 'Order' based in Canada and led by Giles
Lamoureux-Gadoury.
#5 In 1977, the "Russian Grand Priory in Malta" split from this 'Order'
and gained Prince Andrei of Yugoslavia as its Grand Master, to be reconciled
with the rest of the 'Order' in 1979, when Prince Andrej was accepted by
the whole 'Order' as being its Grand Master.
#6 Organisation in schism. The Sovereign Council under Raymond J.
Addington OBE did not recognise the Belgic Charter and there existed a state
of schism between the Vancouver HQ and the Belgium HQ. A new listing exists
under TABLE 11. In 1999 this organisation
ceased to be part of the "King Peter Orders" and its members joined the
organisation in TABLE 7. |

NOTES:
#1 This organisation was created by members (among others) who had
been in the 'Orders' of TABLE 2,
TABLE 6, and
TABLE 15.
#2 In 1992 Discussions were held to create a Joint Order with the
Order in TABLE 2, but came to nothing.
#3 Since January 2005, this 'Order' includes "l'Union des Descendants
des Commandeurs et Chevaliers Héréditaires du Grand Prieuré
de Russie de l'Ordre de Saint Jean de Jérusalem" registered in
Alsace amongst others by Prince Vladimir Bariatinsky. It is suggested via
there website that this new Organisation is the historic "Union" of the Russian
Hereditary Commanders group in Paris, begun in 1928 - but without providing
any details of the missing period of 1975 to 2004. Whereas in reality the
organisation was created as part of the "OOSJ" in 2005. It has been claimed
that this Union was registered on the 11th November 2004, however the
actual registration of this "Union" in Schiltigheim was 13th January 2005.
Consult: The Register of Associations of the Tribunal dInstance
de Schiltigheim, Volume : 36 Folio N° 54.
#4. In July 2006, members of this organisation managed to transfer
the moribund corporation once held by the Russian Commanders group.
#5 Count Nicholas Bobrinskoy is a genuine Count and a descendant of
Catherine the Great of Russia. He was a member of the 'Order' in
TABLE 15 in 1972 before joining the 'Order'
in TABLE 6.
In 1974 he is listed as 'Lieutenant Grand Prior' of the "Orthodox Tradition
of the Russian Grand Priory of the Sovereign Order of Saint John, of Jerusalem,
Knights Of Malta", which was allied to "Orthodox Tradition of the
Russian Grand Priory of the Sovereign Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, the
Orthodox Hospitallers of Saint John" an Order founded in Cyprus in 1972.
His older half brother was a member of the Paris Group of the Descendants
of Russian Family Commanders.
#6 Prince Sergei Troubetzkoy is listed on the early letterheads as
Lieutenant Grand Master.
#7. The competing Acting Grand Priors indicate an internal division.
Email 13/09/2006 for the declaration issued by Prince Michael assuming the
duties of "Sovereign Grand Prior". Email 14/09/2006 for the notice about

#2 more correctly; Alex Ceslawa Maurice Jean Brimeyer born in 1946.
Brimeyer managed to get himself recognized by the 87-year-old Vassili d'Anjou
Durassow. The document attests that Vassili recognizes him as his only son
and heir by his "former consort Princess Olga Beatricia Dolgorouki"
and cites his date of birth as 4 May 1948. However other evidence discounts
this claim.
see

Alex Brimmer went on to found his own Order - see
TABLE 23.
#3 Robert von Brancovan (known as Robert Baden von Bradische. Some
authors suggest his real name is Isaac Wolff) had first been a member of
the Cassagnac Order (TABLE 2). In 1967,
he then was a leading member of a St John Order led by 'Grand Master' Prince
Carol Hohenzollern (TABLE 4). Brancovan
left in 1969 to join the King Peter Order (TABLE
3). In 1970, he then assisted in setting up a new St John Order
(TABLE 14).
#4 Became known as Prince Michael Khimchiachivili Von Brancovani.
Brancovan became a defendant in a Court case in the USA; Alhadeff v. Georg,
30 November 1983, the Court decided in favour of the plaintiff and against
the defendant who had supplied the plaintiff with a "passport" and made him
a "knight of Malta" for which he had charged $20,000. The Court in its judgment
determined that, despite the variants in the name, there was an intention
to make the plaintiff (who was Jewish) believe that the defendant's "Order"
was somehow a secular branch of the Roman Catholic Order; evidence such as
the similarity of the name, the coat of arms as used on stationery, the
decoration awarded, references to the alleged support of various public persons,
all served to support the plaintiff's case. The Brancovan organisation may
have ceased to exist following this Court case.
#5 The 'Order' in TABLE 19 claims
to have continued this 'Order'. |

MASTERS
ORDO SANCTI JOANNIS HOSPITALIS HIEROSOLYMITANI

Peter II, King of Yugoslavia |
1965-1970 |
Grand Master #1. |
|
'Prince 'Alfred von Habsburg-Hohenberg |
2001-2006 |
Hereditary Grand Prior #2. |
NOTES:
#1 Only via Alfred Kugler's claim.
#2 The full title claimed is "His Highness, Alfred Prince von
Habsburg-Hohenberg, Margrave von Burgau, Baron von Kupferberg, Landgrave
zu Nellenburg, Burgrave von Tirol".
Originally he was a member of the Order in TABLE
2 in 1964, and before that may have been a member of the Shickshinny
Convent (TABLE 1). In 1965 he was a member
of the Order in TABLE 3.
On July 7th 2002 he was claiming that "H.M. King Peter II, as the Grandmaster
of the Ordo Sancti Joannis Hospitalis Hierosolymitami decreed on January
20, 1964 that my title should be Hereditary Grand Prior, Knights Hospitaller".
However on a Document (a Proxy voting paper) 18th May 1964 (a copy of which
was preserved in the records of Count Christian Orssich), submitted by him
to King Peter, he describes himself as "Alfred Paul Baron Kugler von Kupferberg
Hollenberg - Hereditary Commander of Justice, acting Prior of Middle Northwest
of the United States of America" - thus in the historical records of the
Order as led by King Peter see TABLE 3,
certainly by May 1964 - no decree appears to have been issued by King Peter,
as he is not an "Hereditary Grand Prior"! - nor in that Document a "Prince"!
Furthermore, King Peter was only elected Grand Master on the 30th January
1965, by a group of American Knights, followed by being elected Grand Master
by European groups in March of that year. Up until 30th January 1965, King
Peter was only High Protector to the Cassagnac Order
(TABLE 2). There is no evidence contemporary
to 1964 and up until 30th January 1965, that King Peter was a Grandmaster
of any Order of St John, including one with a Latin Title!
Of relevance is a letter from General Theodore K. Militchevitch, who was
in charge of the Chancellery of King Peter II. In writing to Kupferberg on
May 20th 1965, General Militchevitch begins the letter "Dear Mr. von Kupferberg"
- not "Baron" - nor "Prince". General Militchevitch on behalf of the King
would always seek to follow the correct protocols, and certainly does not
provide the title of "Prince" to Kupferberg.
By February 2006, the website had become defunct suggesting the Order
no longer exists. |
